You have the option to reserve a single session for your pottery workshop. If you book two sessions, you will have the opportunity to paint and glaze your pottery during the second session. However, we recommend booking five sessions, which includes one introduction to the pottery wheel.
If you are considering joining the workshop, this is what you need to know (the order of techniques can be adjusted based on your needs / your personal project, if you have one):
First Session: Create a bowl or mug starting from a pinch bowl, using beginner’s hand-building technique.
Second Session: Experiment with painting techniques using engobes ( making color tests) and develop additional hand-building techniques using rolls.
Third Session: Introduction to the pottery wheel.
Fourth Session: Develop pottery with hand-building techniques using slabs.
Fifth Session: painting & glazing your pottery.
We will work through the main steps understanding and learning ceramic techniques. A little bit of theory and mainly using your hands to create, develop your pottery. During the workshop you will learn hand built techniques and introduction to pottery throwing wheel techniques, while making your first ceramics.
At the end of the workshop you can bring home your designed ceramics,- ready to use in the kitchen! After the object is dried/fired/glazed in 2 to 4 weeks, you can take it home.
First day workshop (2 h): I will guide you to build a functional ware from start to end. We start out by sharing pottery images, then clay kneading and introducing the hand building techniques: using rolls, slabs or starting from a ball of clay. We will experiment with making a cup, plate or bowl (by your own choice and design). For the workshop we will use clay; terracotta, stoneware (the clay that is easy to work with for beginners. Also, you can choose the type of terracotta you like to work with: either smooth or clay with grains/ grog’s.
Second day workshop (2 h): I will introduce the ancient techniques of decorating, creating textures on your developed pottery. A minimal drawings/patterns with engobes (colors), using brush on unfired ceramics (the materials used are safe, non toxic).
Third day workshop (2 h): introduction to glazing techniques (engobes/ glazes).
Fourth day Workshop (2 h): introduction to the pottery wheel

This workshop allows you to learn and develop. The functional ware ceramics from earthenware/ stoneware. This workshop will be focused on form/shape/design of the object. You will be creating the design of your own choice with personal guidance from the beginning to the end of the process. You can chooce to develop one piece together with a group and individual pieces.
After the object is dried/fired/glazed in 2 to 4 weeks duration you can pick the pottery from the studio. and you can use your pottery in the kitchen!

- Pottery must dry before glazing

Making & Glazing MUGS / 2 sessions workshop (please request for the dates)
First day workshop (2.5 h): I will guide you to build by hand mugs/cups from the start to the end based on your own design. We will start with sharing pottery images, considering the shape. Then we proceed with clay kneading and introducing the quick hand building methods. Together we will choose the technique most suitable for your project. The clay used to make pots can be terracotta, stoneware
Second day workshop (2 h): glazing and decorating (exploring different techniques, how to apply the glaze) applying color with a brush on unfired and fired ceramics (using gloves and masks). This workshop will allow you to choose the glaze (color) you like your mug to look like.
After the object is dried/fired/glazed (coated with glaze if requested) in 1.5 weeks duration you can bring it home.

During one session (3 hour duration) you can produce finalised piece or several / using handbuilt techniques)
This workshop is suitable for beginners or people that completed one course at Atelier Kleie.
It is special because you don’t need to paint your made pottery, the clay itself has vibrant colors, such as; blue, green, yellow, black. We will kneed chosen colored clay together, using cutting techniques, combining them into the patterns, which we will use to hand built: mugs, plates, bowls, vase, pots.
First technique: rolling clay into slabs and pressing those into dish molds.
Second technique: building ceramics from the slabs, cutting and gluing, using the supports, creating your own design shapes.
At the end of the workshop you can bring home your designed ceramics,- ready to use in the kitchen! After the object is dried/fired/glazed in 2 to 4 weeks, you can take it home.
