ATELIER KLEIE

welcomes everybody who wants to try to work/play/experiment with clay. It can be a free exploration or it can be guided process of making something intentional. I have created a program with guided workshops in my studio in Amsterdam and I am happy to welcome you!

The material – CLAY is a very strong tool to help you with grounding or stress relief. It is not always about the result, it is about the process of sensing with your hands and awakening the primal physical relationship with nature and yourself as part of it. Explore your creative, intuitive self! Especially now in this digital age it is a great experience to remember the real, physical touch of the ground/mud/earth.

I am a visual artist originally from Lithuania, based in Amsterdam. I grew up with clay, in a family making ceramics. I have been studying ceramics techniques for many years and exhibit my artworks in Lithuania and the Netherlands. I’ve studied at the Rietveld academie, Rijksakademie and attended artist residencies in countries, such as: Turkey, Japan, France, Denmark, Spain, Belgium, USA. My practise is based on making contemporary ceramics in a mixed media context.

My expertise ranges from traditional craft pottery to contemporary sculpture. I have learned about pottery internationally. My practice includes larger sculptures, porcelain paintings, and functional ware.

My time in Japan has significantly influenced my approach to pottery-making, teaching me to appreciate the quality of clay rather than simply covering it up. I’ve learned to focus on the surface, color, texture, and developing the right “skin” for each project.
